We made it to that time of year with cooling temperatures and ever shorter days! I’m a realist, so let’s all face the fact that 2020 has been a doozy. After Anxiety inducing Spring and Endless Summer, we are now inching ever so close to FALL. So, let’s celebrate with some refreshing fall scents! These all-natural, toxin-free essential oil sprays are sure to brighten your home and your mood. Safely spritz one of my toxin-free fall room spray recipes throughout your home, your bathrooms, or your vehicle and breathe easy since there are no toxic chemicals used. Happy Fall Y’all!

Fall is Coming

You guys. I am so happy to say that I can feel fall here in South Louisiana. Now, I don’t mean that the temps are below 90 quite yet, but the humidity is beginning to break. There are occasional breezes and the night-time lows are below 80 degrees. All that to say- Fall is coming!!

When the summer heat begins to break it’s just invigorating. You can see the change in the light each day. I feel like the day opens up for new activities and projects that we just can’t do in the summer. And although we may still be wearing our shorts for another couple months here, don’t think I’m not in full fall MOOD.

Today I had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte, I put out a few fall decor items, and spritzed my Warm Apple Pie toxin-free fall room spray throughout the house. I am in heaven. Spicy notes of cinnamon, clove, and refreshing orange. I can’t get enough.

Why Do You Need Toxin-Free Room Spray?

Let me remind you- We have 4 dogs. Also, three of them are Great Danes. Great Danes are #1 Couch potatoes and #2 Bed Hogs. When it’s hot outside, good luck getting those big boys to stay out. So as you can imagine, we have some dog “smells” in our home. In the past, I have reached for carpet “refresher” aka highly scented baking soda, candles, Febreeze, and whatever else I hoped might cover the stink.

Then I started doing a little reading about what’s in all those scented sprays and powders. Just thinking about how many chemicals (some known carcinogens!) that I’m adding to mine and my family’s environment makes me cringe. And all in the name of covering up some dog smell!? Not worth it!

How to Make Toxin-Free Room Spray

Making your own room sprays is so simple. Once you get down the method, you’ll be mixing up all sorts of room sprays for you and your family. Change the oils that you use to match your mood or the time of year.

I find that adding 20-25 drops of oils total is plenty for this 2 ounce spritz. Mix and match to your taste. Don’t forget to use my printable labels for your bottles.

Tips for Making Room Sprays

  • Use unscented witch hazel in this recipe.
  • It’s best to use distilled or filtered water. Hard or soft water from the tap can leave residue on your hard or soft surfaces.
  • I find that the scent is more potent after the room sprays sits a few days.
  • Use pure essential oils. Read the label carefully when buying from online retailers like Amazon or Walmart. Choose the highest quality that fits your budget.
  • Use only glass bottles for storing and mixing room sprays. Essential oils can break down some plastics and other mediums.
  • When spritzing fabrics, always test on an inconspicuous surface for colorfastness.

Products I Recommend and Where to Buy

For this project you need only a few things. Glass bottles are essential for storing oils. Some essential oils like citrus oils can degrade plastic which would be unsafe when used.

You’ll also need high-quality essential oils. For myself, I buy only Young Living Essential Oils since they source their ingredients from their own growers. However, essential oils can be ordered on Amazon and other retailers.

It’s really important that you check the ingredients for only essential oils in the bottles. Be sure that no other chemicals or preservatives are added. Here are a few links to get you started.

Please know that I make a few cents when you use my links to the products listed below. Thanks for your support!
